Hello! I’m Marissa, technical editor and proofreader. Welcome to my portfolio.

My professional experience includes twelve years as a compliance auditor, evaluating an organization’s compliance with internal policies, accounting procedures, and sales tax rules. This work demanded objectivity and an excellent attention to detail. The end product of every audit was a clear and informative technical report that effectively engaged stakeholders and persuaded them to take corrective action.
My love of writing and editing technical reports led me to obtain a master of arts in technical communication (MATC) from Texas Tech University, which I completed in May 2023. This hands-on, multidisciplinary program trained me in the areas of grant writing, technical editing, and user experience design (UX Design).
As a graduate student at Texas Tech University, I participated in two internships in 2022. I interned with Texas Tech University’s Office of Official Publications during the spring semester and the Office of Inspector General at NASA in Washington, DC, during the summer semester. Both internships were excellent learning experiences.
I have been working as a freelance editor since August 2020, editing technical documents (airport master plans and environmental assessment reports), memoirs, professional resumes, and academic articles and manuscripts written by non-native English authors.
I specialize in ensuring the mechanical and grammatical integrity of print and digital content. This includes correcting errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure. I also cross-check information within a document; identify inconsistencies in style and formatting; point out redundancies, unclear language, and missing words; suggest revisions for clarity; format documents; do general fact-checking; and query possible inaccuracies in the content.

I’m dedicated to performing excellent work and to adhering to the values of the profession adopted by the Society for Technical Communication—integrity, innovation, respect, commitment, and professionalism.
On a personal note, my interests include traveling, outdoor photography, and collecting vintage purses. On my spare time, I enjoy working out, assembling puzzles, and spending time with family, friends, and my two loving cats.
